- we were going to wake up kid #3 and then head to the patch and wander around looking at pumpkins and then pick a couple, carry them back to the van after paying for them and possibly play outside a bit more. then head to a restaurant and chow down because we had appetites. every one is happy, cheerful and respectful of what their mom asks them to do.
-reality: kid #3 wakes up, we head to the farm and then realize that 1. the pumpkins have all been picked. 2. there is a lot of farmer's market food stuff in the barn right near the pumpkins. 3. they only take cash [gasp!]. now, i had been mentally ready for the last mentioned item, but still didn't stop at the bank for some more money. i'm not really sure why- other than i didn't pass one on my way to the patch. when we pulled into the parking lot i saw a corn maze, and thought that could be kind of cool. i got a little suspicious about cost of the maze when i saw the sign "see inside the barn for tickets"
before we got out of the car, kid #2 thought that we were at home depot. kid #1 laughed and said "no, this is where we get pumpkins" (i chuckled and texted a friend about how cute i thought kid #2 is).
then! we talk to someone about the pumpkins and if there is a way to go to the patch and pick them ourselves. apparently a while back, they had an incident where a boy cut off his mom's finger instead of just cutting the stem of the pumpkin. i think that it's an interesting story, but a little alarming and i was more than happy to buy a couple of pumpkins that they had already picked. we bought one larger pumpkin, two table top pumpkins, one small pumpkin and three gourds. the kids pretty much picked them all out- kid #1 impressed me by picking some cute little ones. kid #2 picked whatever was the closest thing to his hands. kid #3 was stuck on my back until i saw a cart. the total of all the items was $13.80 and i had $14 in my pocket. victory! talked to them about the maze, and i didn't have enough money. another reason why i try not to tell the kids specifically what we're doing so that way i don't have any disappointed kids. well, aside from kid #2 who was so hungry he was basically trying to take things off the shelves to eat. so cute- but mostly embarrassing!
