if i can count to five…

does this mean that i don't have to follow the basic rules/instructions i used to follow? as this guy is getting a bit more knowledgeable i have been having to reintroduce all the things he isn't allowed to do.
for example:
• crossing the street on his own (what is the kid thinking?!)
• when we're out for a walk, that he dictates the direction we're going (usually i give him an option if he has a choice- never a *you decide!*).
• playing with the screen door and walking in and out of the house. this is a definitely no, no since i'm not going to buy a new screen if he breaks it and i am not interested in having a bunch of bugs in my house because the screen is open.
• taking naps is optional- so he'll run around his room like it's his job. (yeah- right)
• eating the food put out for him is optional. although we're weak on this- i give him basic options for meals and then give a few bonus options if he does well eating. i have a skinny dude and somehow it has gotten into our head that he needs all that he can get, even if it isn't the most healthy. i hope that he won't pay for this too much when he's older (not understanding good eating habits- that is).
• that he's allowed to play with the chalk outside any time he wants to (dream on- when we're eating we're eating. just like ecclesiastes says- there's a time for everything).

i think that is a good list for now.

even though i think that he's super intelligent and i love the man like crazy- he's still living under my roof! i'm proud of his growth and this huge development in language skills. great job #1!
